The Hard Cider Run Recap

I ran the Hard Cider Run over the weekend for the 3rd time. This race for me, is one of the harder races I actually run in. In Charlottesville it has this huge hill up a mountain you get to go up between mile 1 and 2 and to be honest, if you can run up that beast, more power to you because after losing so much weight, this was first time I was even able to walk super fast up it without stopping.

The race was 3 miles/5k. I went in the first wave, the 9:00 A.M. heat. That is a runners only wave. I never go in that wave but figured why not. This was my second race since losing so much weight. I was able to run all of it (except said previous hill) and it felt amazing. I had a good pace and stamina the entire time until the very end. I did lose my speed and energy right at the end before the finish line and had to really push myself to finish and not walk but I did it and it felt great.

The big thing that was good was it did not rain on Saturday morning. It was calling for downpours and we missed it. It held off until the afternoon so we got to run in a nice cool morning which was great because once I got running, I was burning up.

My time was around 40 minutes. The first year I ever ran it was in 2015 and my time was 57 minutes and last year in 2016 it was 45 minutes. I am hoping next year in 2018 I can get it under 39 minutes.

Don't forget you can still use the code RACHEL1 for $5.00 off you registration to the Hard Cider Run. Let me know if you are running or have ran the race. I would love to know your thoughts on it!!.

Corn and Potato Chowder Recipe

One of my all time favorite meals is Corn and Potato Chowder. I eat it every time when I am in Maine. Well unfortunately the place I get it at, stopped serving so I had to find a recipe I liked and make it. It is very Delicious and super easy to make!

Here is what you need:

    • 1 medium yellow onion, small dice
    • 3 cups fresh or frozen corn kernels (thaw if frozen) (I used 2 cans)
    • 3 cups whole milk
    • 1 pound russet potatoes (about 2 medium), peeled and medium dice
    • 2 teaspoons kosher salt, plus more as needed
    • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, plus more as needed
    • 1/2 cup heavy cream
    • Finely chopped chives, for serving
    INSTRUCTIONS
    • Place 1 cup of the corn and 1 cup of the milk in a blender and blend until smooth; set aside.
    • Set heat to  medium high, add the corn-milk purée, remaining 2 cups of corn and 2 cups of milk, potatoes, and measured salt and pepper. Stir to combine, then bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are just cooked through and the soup has thickened slightly, about 10 minutes.
    • Add the cream, stir to combine, and return to a simmer. Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed. Serve garnished with the chives.

Some people like to make bacon with it and add it in. I don't.

Weight Loss Update

I have hit my lowest weight..again! I am currently sitting at 153! That is 42 pounds gone officially. It is taking so much hard work and dedication to lose this weight. It is not easy and for anyone that says losing weight and dieting is easy...screw you because it is not. I have 8 more pounds to go to get to my new goal weight of 145!

I am not starving myself or anything like but right now but currently, I am not eating dinner a lot. My appetite has changed so much that I am never hungry in the evenings anymore, especially after a good workout. I typically eat some fruit at night and that is about it. My biggest meal is lunch. I try to eat healthy at lunch but eat a good bit when I eat.

I am working out 5/6 days a week for a hour or more a day. I am either at the gym doing cardio with 3+ miles a day and 30 to 40 miles of machine weights and free weights or I am playing softball for 1-2 hours a day which is so much cardio. Either way, I am running, sweating and using my arms so much.

I also have a good bit of 5's and OCR races coming up. I am super pumped about them. Saturday I have the Hard Cider Run and in a few weeks I have my first OCR of the season, Rugged Maniac. I am really hoping to cut down on my time finally since I have lost so much weight and I am in a much better physical shape this time. I did much better the last Rugged Maniac due to losing weight but I was still about 15 pounds heavier so I am hoping since I have lost more, I will do better. Fingers crossed!

I am hoping to hit my goal weight before my cruise this fall in October so I have to keep pushing, washing what I eat and working out hard every week!!

Easter Weekend

This Easter Holiday flew by so fast! I sucked on the picture taking due to the fact that we had a big cookout at my house on Saturday and I was the host which translates into me not having any time to take any pictures or have a chance to sit down and breath. We had a ton of food, a egg hunt and it was a blast. To bad I don't have pictures right? You just have to take my word for it.

On Sunday, we spent the day with Chris' family and I actually conned him into taking a picture with me.

We went to dinner at the Bavarian Chef which is this amazing German restaurant here that I love. It is so delcious but you have to go in with your belly empty and ready to eat because they give you enough food for 3/4 people per meal. It is pretty ridiculous.

This week is going to be quite busy so I hope I have more interesting post for you. I have 2 softballs games this week and the Hard Cider Run on Saturday! Sorry for the short post, but I had to share the picture of me and Chris because I love it!

Bow Wow Walk 2017

For the past three years I have participated in the Bow Wow Walk. It is a fundraiser to help raise money for the local SPCA. Every year I try to raise money and reach a goal of at least $250.00. I take my dog, Itsy, and we have a blast. The walk is about a 1.5 miles which is not bad for a dog. They have vendors from all over central Virginia. There was a dog costume contest, look-like-your-dog contest, and even doggy ice cream. It really is a fun, well ran event.

This year, my team raised over $10,000 and the event it self raised over $70,000. That is a good bit of money for the SPCA and all of the animals that are there. They need all the help they can get so every penny really does matter in this.

Saturday was not really hot. It was kind of the perfect day for a dog walk. I even strapped a GoPro to Itsy but I have not had the time nor the patience to actually edit it yet. Hopefully I can sit down one day and actually edit the footage instead of putting it off.

If you are from the area and want to walk, comment below and I will let you know next year about it. You do not even need a dog to come. Just come and have fun. Also check your local SPCA/animal shelter and see if they have any events like this. They are a blast and it is so much fun to see all of the dogs that show up.

Weekend Recap

Can the weekend please come back?? Man it went by way to fast. Partially it is because I was busy non stop all weekend long. I felt like I was going going going and I did not really get a chance to just sit and relax at all until around 9:00 P.M. last night. I crashed out before I knew it.

Saturday we had a fun eventful trip to the vet. Willow had her last puppy shot and she made sure the vet knew she was there. She whined the entire time she was in there and anytime someone wanted to pet her, she peed on the floor. I have the wussiest dogs ever. She is now set to be spayed in about a month. I am going to be a total mess and cry the entire time when I drop her off until I pick her up. I hate having the dogs spayed because of the surgery but they really need it done.

Saturday evening we took one of our tractors to a friends house. Now we live in the country and it is not easy to take farm equipment around to other people's houses. We could put it on a trailer..that is the easy method. My husband decided to actually drive it there. A 10 minute drive took  us a hour due to the fact that the tractor doesn't go over 8-10 mph.  I had to follow behind him the entire way going so slow with my flashers on. That was a fun drive.

Sunday I had softball all day long. I am playing on a co-ed softball league with some friends. Now, I will admit I am not that good but my skills are improving since starting and I am getting better each week. The one dumb thing I did during one of the games yesterday was I had the ball right in front of me and instead of catching it with my glove, I tried to get it with my hand. That was dumb. I forgot to wear sun block as well which now, I am rocking a pretty schmexy farmers sun-burn which will turn in a farmers tan. I know you are jealous right?

I have two softball games this week and practice this Sunday. As you can tell..I jumped head first into the softball pool. Wish me luck...I am going to need it.

Lilly Pulitzer Ebay Finds + Ebay Guide

You guys..I did it again. I am loving me some Ebay. I posted a few weeks ago how I love Lilly Pulitzer but I am super cheap and refuse to pay full price for it. It is super expensive and with me being on a budget, I just can not afford to drop $150+ on a dress. Lucky for me, I can browse Ebay and find me a cute dress for cheap.

Now the only downfall is I have to fight some girls for the dress and hope they do not outbid but normally I am able to get what I want. I was able to score this cute Lilly Pulitzer Palm Reader Cathy Shift Dress which retails around $178.00 for $60.00 and that includes shipping.

For anyone who is scared to buy on Ebay, here are my suggestions.

1. Only buy from people with 98% or higher ratings. Typically these people will not mess with you and you will have nothing to worry about.

2. Only buy from people who post actual pictures of the product and not stock pictures. Most stock photos are scams are fakes.

3. Do not buy anything at retail price. That is stupid. You should of just bought it from the store then.

4. If you think it is to good to be true, it normally is. If I see something that is super low priced and is a stock photo, it is more than likely fake. Move on friend!

5. Read the ratings of the seller if you are worried about it. Check it out and see if it is worth bidding on.

6. If it something I really want, I will bid once or twice and if I get out bid, I get on the page right before the bidding is over and make sure I am the top bidder before the auction ends.

7. I never pay over $50-$60 for anything on Ebay. If I can not get it for cheap, it is not worth it. Remember, it is Ebay, you are not at Macys

I have gotten 3 Lilly Pulitzer dresses over the past month or so and all of them have only cost me around $110.00 all together. That is still not even the cost of one dress so to me, it is worth it! Ebay is the place to go. I have even scored Kate Spade wallets and bags so if your looking for a good deal, check out Ebay! Also, they have no paid for me this post, it is all on my own. I am just super happy to be getting these deals and wanted to share!

Weight Loss Update

I haven't posted about my weight loss in a good while so I figured I was due to post about it. A year ago last week I joined a gym to lose weight. I weighed 195 and was sick of my weight. As of this morning,  I am 154!!! I have officially going past my goal weight and I am on to my next goal. I have lost 41 pounds and now I want to lose another 9 pounds to get to 145. I know I can do this and I want to lose it before my cruise in October which gives me a ton of time and can help me tone my body as well.

Recently I had felt like I had reached a point where I was  no longer losing weight. I was stuck. I decided I had to change up my eating habits and work out routine. I started eating a little healthier that I was, more lean. I cut out all drinks except water, even juices are gone. I workout 5 days a week. I am either in the gym or doing some other form of exercise. I have also joined 2 softball teams. One is for work and the other is a team with some friends that plays in a local league. After our first 2.5 hour practice, I was so sore. I used muscles that I have not used in years. Sure I run and lift weights, but actually throwing a softball and batting for hours is so different than what I am used to it. I am one of those people that actually likes being sore after a workout but this sore, was a whole different level. It hurt when I sneezed and coughed! My body is finally adjusting to the new pace and it is losing more weight and I love it.

I am hoping with the change in my schedule that I will see those 9 pounds come off pretty quickly. I have found myself not as hungry and when I do eat, it is not as much. I used to be able to sit down and chow down on some food. Not anymore. It just does  not happen. I do not love food anymore, I do not want to go out to eat because I know it is a waste of money for me. I won't eat all the food and I will feel sick afterwards. For me, that is a good thing. It is saving me some money and I am not getting all of those bad calories.

If you are on a weight loss journey, do not give up. For me, when I started, I thought I would never get to wear I am right now but I am here. I have lost 41 pounds, I am down 3 jeans sizes and 2 shirts sizes. That is a huge accomplishment for me. You have to start determined and fight. If you have a bad day, it is okay. You can start over the next day. You are allowed to have cheat days and eat something bad. You just can't do it every day! If anyone ever wants help or wants to talk about losing weight, just comment below or e-mail me. I would love to help you! We all have to start somewhere.

The Hard Cider Run

 http://www.thehardciderrun.com/register/

As you know, I love me a good fun run. I typically run 10-15 races a year. I am planning on participating in the The Hard Cider Run again this year. I ran the race the past 2 years in Virginia and really, is it a hard run here. Part of it is up a mountain and I can not run up a mountain but I make a good attempt. It really test me physically and mentally. Before the race ever starts, I am pumped up and ready to go but when I get to the hill, I am like dang it, why am I doing this but when I get to the top and I am so pumped that I just run the rest of the way. Plus, you get a free medal at the end for kicking its butt. This is a fun run and you get some yummy hard cider at the end of it.

http://www.thehardciderrun.com/register/

Now you do not have to be a runner to do this race. You can walk, jog, skip, dash or dance your way through this course.  They have different waves that start at different times. If you want to take your time, join a later wave. If you want to go full on beast mode with the race, be one of the first across the start line.

Now this can be a family fun event as well. The entire family is allowed to run. They have youth sized shirts and they get non-alcoholic apple cider at the end. I find that running this race is fun as a team. I like having my friends help push me along and I am able to help encourage them as we go. Plus, you get a $5.00 discount for registering as a team of 4+.
Now if you are planning on running, just click here to register. Make sure you use code RACHEL1 to get yourself a $5.00 off discount! Let me know if you plan on running and if you are the Charlottesville area join my team!

Ebay Finds

Recently I have become obsessed with Lilly Pulitzer. I missed the craze in college as I went to a business school and then finished my BA online. I never got to be part of a sorority so I never got to have the whole Lilly Pulitzer obsession. Now these dresses and everything else run way way to pricey. I can not afford a off the shelf dress. If you can, please bless me with your bank account. I would love you forever..or just send me a dress in a size Large. I have turned to Ebay.

Ebay is the one place you can find everything. The only issue is you have to make sure you do not get a fake. I have bought a ton of stuff off of Ebay over the years and I typically get good deals. Due to said clothing obsession, I was able to get 2 Lilly Pulitzer dresses. One I only paid $33.00 for   (this one is brand new with tags!!) and one I only paid $19.00.

Once they come in, I will post pictures. They have already shipped out. I am super excited. I know they would be better if I actually went and bought them but hey, a girl has to do what a girl has to do, especially one on a budget! For now, Ebay will be my friend as I search far and wide for Lilly Pulitzer. If you have some, hit me up, make me a offer. I am in need and would love to have it!!

Life Lately

First, let me say sorry for being an absent blogger. Life has been so busy this past week and I have no idea where the time has went. I have been so swamped with work and everything else, that my poor blog just took a backseat! I figured the blog was due for a little recap.

1. I went and saw Miranda Lambert on Friday. I love her and she is my animal spirit. I have probably seen her in concert 5 times now. I would go 100 times more if I could. The show was amazing as always and I believe that since the divorce she is really finding her self again. She seemed happier on stage.

2. March is my Birthday Month. Next week..I turn 30. Dun Dun Dun!

3. I finally got my hands on the Lilly Pulitzer/Starbucks S'well bottle. I had to wait a little bit and my local Starbucks finally got some more in. This is my first Lilly item and I am hoping it will not be my last. Happy Birthday to me!

4. I ordered this lovely little Kate Spade wallet off line. Once again, Happy Birthday to me!

5. I have also hit my goal weight. I am at 155!!!! It took me an entire year to get there but I did it. I will post more about it ASAP!!!

My Hair Journey

I have been trying to grow my hair out over the last few years. I had long hair for awhile and I cut it off in frustration. I regret that day every day as growing it back out has been a pain in the ass. I have wanted super long hair for years since then and I have never been able to get it to grow past a certain length. This is mostly my own fault. I have for years, used a flat iron on my hair. I know how horrible they are for your hair and I have still used one. I finally cut it out. I am back to straightening my hair with a round brush and blow dryer and I hope to cut out the blow dryer eventually. I need to also get trims on a more regular basis as well.

So here is a nice history in my hair.  I figured a nice timeline of photos would be sufficient. I will start with the day I chopped the hair off.

This was over the past few years. Now below is today. I must say, the hair game is good today!

I have recently started a once a week coconut oil mask on my hair. I did that last night and my hair loved it! I can tell it will help my hair a lot. I only did the bottom where all of the damage is from the flat iron. I am also in need a trim, I know! I can see it in the picture above. If you have any good tips for growing out your hair, Let me know! I could use them!

Weekend Recap

Can we talk about how amazing the weather was in Virginia over the weekend? Holy moly. It is February but feels like April/May. We have been having 60-70 degree days and I am loving it. I know it means global warming but weather, please stay. Mr. Groundhog, you were wrong about your winter prediction.

1. I went out for drinks and a movie with the girls. We saw the new Fifty Shades Darker. I will say I do like it but the books are much much much better. Do not knock the movie until you atleast give it a chance.

2. Over the weekend, was the year anniversary from when I met and got to work out with Thomas Rhett. I put a post on Instagram about it and how it helped kick start my weight loss and how I am 40 pounds down. Well, Thomas Rhett actually commented on it and that really made my day yesterday.

3. I took Willow to the vet for her second round of puppy shots. She did really good and is growing super fast. She is 20 pounds already and hates walking on a leash. She has been a little sore since the vet appointment and I am hoping it is just the shots.

Other than that, I enjoyed my weekend, cleaned house and had the windows open because it is so damn nice here in Central Virginia. I hope everyone else is getting this amazing weather like we are!!

Problems with Subway

I was Featured on Buzzfeed!

Awhile back, Buzzfeed asked for submissions on weight loss journeys. Now, if you know me or have been a reader of my blog for any amount of time, you know I have lost a good bit of weight and have been on my own weight loss journey. I started last March losing weight. I really committed to it. I joined a gym, I started going to the gym 5-6 days a week and completely changed my diet. It took me months but I lost 40+ pounds.

Now, I am a religious Buzzfeed reader. I do not read the political post but I love most of what is on the website. A few months ago I saw a post on the community section asking people for their weight loss stories. I typically never send anything in to their site. I am fine blogging but not sharing on Buzzfeed as millions of people read Buzzfeed and only a few hundred read my blog. This time, I wanted to share, plus they may not even use my weight loss story anyways.

Well about 2 weeks ago I got a follow up e-mail with a few more questions. They wanted more details about how I lost weight. What was the hardest part. How much weight had I lost since March, etc. I got so excited because I thought they were actually going to use me! I got the email and within 5 minutes of receiving it I was responding. I kept checking online every day since for the article and never saw it. Mid-last week I stopped looking. I accepted the fact that I was not going to be on the site, until yesterday. I was actually driving to the gym and I got a Facebook request from a stranger asking for tips on weight loss. The lady has PCOS like me and saw me on Buzzfeed. I was so excited that I had to stop and look for the article. I was actually featured.

I know some people think this is silly to be this excited but for me, it is a big deal. I am a small blogger. I don't do anything like this or ever get feature like this. For me to have my weight loss journey on there and having others being inspired and encouraged by it, means so much to me. It helps me stay on track and to keep going. If I am able to even help one person lose weight and feel better about themselves, than that to me, makes a difference. I am happy that I can make a difference in someones life, even if it is only one person or 10 people.

If you want to read it, just click any of the links in this post! Make sure you comment on it to!
