Life As Rachel: February 2014

Things that annoy me:

1. When family members are silent readers of your blog. They run and tell your mother everything little thing on your blog and then your mother mentions it to you.

2. YOLO..nope..not loving that word. Let it go people. I always associate it with Bieber for some odd reason and I really don't like him either.

3. Cold weather. It is 14 degrees here. That is cold. I am ready for spring and warm weather. Bring on the sun, flip flops, and shorts.

4. Husbands when they won't agree with me. I am always right. Just accept it and let's move on. The world would be much happier this way.

5. Cops turning on their lights behind you, but its only to check on an abandon car on the side of the road. Talk about a heart attack.

6. Deer. Please stop jumping in front of my car. You are making me skiddish in the mornings.

This is my Friday so far...CHEERS TO THE WEEKEND!

A Few Things.

Dale Jr: Listen here buddy. You won the race finally..after multiple since 2004. I am super happy about this. I stalked my twitter feed and Nascar online all night since the race was rain delayed to see if you had won. You are now my home screen picture on my phone. You have made my twitter feed super happy by making a twitter account. (I apologize to all of my followers now but you will see a lot of Dale Jr. stuff.) You amazing ginger self really needs to meet me. How about at the Richmond race? A little scared? Don't be. Casey Mears met me and hes still doing great! I even got to ask him multiple questions! Give it a shot! The worst I will do is hug you, take a picture with you and sniff you because I know you smell delicious.

Chris: Your my world and my love for Dale Jr. will never come between us.

Snow: GO THE EFF AWAY. Seriously. So over the snow. It is snowing right now!

Spring: Please visit.

Store: I am so happy I opened Country Couture. It is doing great. If you go to the site, there is a 5% coupon code just for liking the facebook page! I am constantly getting new things in so make sure you check it out.

I have a ton of stuff going on but right now I am too tired to think of any of it. I have had family in since Sunday and I am exhausted! Happy Hump Day!

Life Lately

Life lately has been hard. I have been great at putting a nice big smile on for others to see but in all realness I am hurting. I am not sleeping well. I am crying at moments when I am alone and there is not a day that goes by I do not think about my nephew.

I know as time goes I am going to get better but at this point, it is so damn hard that every day is hard. With the rest of my life, things are good. Country Couture is great, my husband is great, my family is great my friends are amazing, and work is great. Emotionally though I am hurting. I never expected to hurt so bad from the loss of someone. I don't know at this point how to even put into words how I feel.

I shouldn't be able to google his name and find news reports about him. I shouldn't be able to see RIP before his name on his friends' post. There is a lot I should not be able to see at this point. I have my own regrets from what has happened. There are things I wish I did different but I can not change one thing. All I can do is fight for justice for him.

I am not sleepy well and it is due to things coming up that I can not mention. I just pray for justice. Accident or no accident, something must be done. I lost something I can never get back.

My Favorite Books

I love to read books but it is really hard for me to find a new book to read unless someone recommends it to me. I am pretty picky about them. I used to only love actual paper books but now I love reading them on my nook or Ipad. I wanted to share what my favorite books/series are. Some are pretty typical as most girls like them and others people have not heard of.

1. In Death Series by J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts) This is a great series about a cop in the mid 21st century. I have read every book in it, there are 39 books I believe in the series and a few that are short stories with it.

2. The Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer. I can't help it but I love this series. The books are better than the movies and I can read the series over and over and not be bored. I do have favorite books in it and some I hate, like New Moon because lets be real...Team Edward people.

3. Fifty Shades of Grey Series by E.L. James. I think every adult woman should read this. It is romantic, annoying and so many things in one 3 book series. I loved it and I got past the whole sex stuff and actually saw a romance past it.

4. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Seriously we all wish we were Katniss. Enough said.

5. Anything by Nicholas Sparks.

6. The Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charliane Harris. If you like the TV show True Blood, you need to read the books. They are amazing and there is so much more in the books than in the TV show.

Now if you notice all of my favorite reads are romance/fiction/NOT REAL!/will never happen in real life. I do not like to read autobiographies or a book about history. I like happy books (except for the In Death Series...a lot of murder there) that do not take much thought. I don't want my head to hurt. I like being able to visualize who I want in the character. I like being able to escape reality for a tiny bit and just read about something new/different.

Now I need some things books/series to read as I can only read these books so many times before I know all the lines. So..please leave me some good books/series for me read. I need something new!

Back To School I Go

Recently I made the decision to go back to school. I already have a B.A. but I wanted to get something else under my belt. When I first when to college, I attended a small business college ad got my A.A.S. After that I returned but online and I got my B.A.S. in paralegal studies. Now, there is no requirement in VA to be one but hey it does help in an interview to have it and the training was great.

I am going to just take a course to get a certificate in business but honestly, in the world, that will help anyone. It is a pretty long course but will turn out to be pretty good on my resume. It is through University Alliance and I am taking the course with the University of Florida.

I start classes March 1. My favorite part of being able to take classes, work full time and run my own clothing boutique is that I can take classes online. I have done this before and I find it easy. I got my A.A.S. at a business school and then got my B.A. online. I find for me that online classes are easier for me. I pay more attention, I get my work done on time and I am not goofing off in class.

I am ready for classes to start and if I could, I would log in already and start my work. I know I can stay on track but I just have to balance work, school and the store. I love my job, but it would be amazing to get into another field. My current degree is so specific to one field that this certificate is very much needed.

When I first decided to go back to school, I was struggling to figure out if I knew what I wanted to do and get out of life. I do know what I want and where I want to go. I just have to get there and this is part of it. It takes baby steps to get there. I want to continue my education farther than this and it is going to take some time and lots of money but I will get there.

Nascar is Back

Most of my regular readers know I am a Nascar fanatic. I am super pumped that this Sunday is the Daytona 500. I am so ready for Nascar season to be back. It is one of my favorite things. I know, as a girl I should like football or softball but my entire life I have been raised to love Nascar. It is in my blood. I grew up going to small dirt tracks watching my father work on cars with his friends. It is something about watching the cars, eating the food and just having fun.

There things however I am not happy about with Nascar:
1. The #3 being back. I am sorry but to me, it is rude and disrespectful. I do not care if you got the families permission. Seriously....smack yourself in the head whoever thought of this idea.

2. Richard Petty slammed Danica Patrick in a comment. Personally I do not like Danica all that much and I do not think she can drive but she is better than my self so you go Danica. Richard Petty...sit in your plush house and hush it. (She is starting 25th this weekend)

3. The Daytona 500 is this weekend and I live in VA. I will not be there in on that. My boy Casey Mears is starting 16th and Dale Jr. is 7th. Baby Jesus..please help Casey Mears this season..PLEASE!

4. Nascar has not hired me yet. I mean come on...I would be great to work with, the drivers would love me most days and Danice and myself could exchange hair tips.

Who is your favorite driver? Who do you think will win the Daytona 500 this weekend? Leave a comment below and whoever gets it right will when adspace for a month on my blog!

I hate the snow.

This past week we got over 18 inches of snow at my house. First...I was happy about snow, now I hate it. I could not get my car out until yesterday. I had 4 days off of work but there was no fun in them days. I did not shower for 2 of them, don't judge me, you have done it. I only cleaned my house yesterday. I shoveled snow for one day and I now refuse to ever do it again. I HATE SNOW. My arms hurt so bad that I was almost to the point of going Saw style and chopping them off. VDOT decided that piling 3 feet of snow at the end of driveway was the best thing to do so that was fun to deal with.

Here is how most people around here have dealt with the snow:

1. Snow is coming.

2. Kids are so excited because school will be closed.

3. After the snow, we get to shovel it. We got 18 inches at our house people.

4. Boredom sets in pretty quick in the country when it snows. I could not get my car out until yesterday so imagine my house.

5. Everyone was tweeting and face booking pictures of the snow and them playing in it. I just wanted it go away. Chris tried to get me to go out in it. Not happening.

6. About day 3 I was done. I wanted no more snow, no more snow cream and no more snow pictures.

7. Finally I got my car out yesterday after being stranded for 4 days at home. THANK YOU BABY JESUS!

Seriously I would be content with no snow..ever again. It is over rated. I am struggling getting out of my driveway, there is ice everywhere and my dogs don't want to go outside.

Gipsy Dharma

*This is a sponsored post but all opinions are 100% my own.*

I like to think of my self as a lover of fashion and I am in LOVE with Gipsy Dharma. They offer classy and cute footwear as well as clothing made out of leather. They are based out of the UK but ship anywhere that is needed. If you order and they do not have your size, you can pre-order to get the size you need.

They are made out of cruelty free leather so that means no animals are ever killed for their hides which is a plus for me as I love animals. The boots also have a easy access zip, strings that help adjust the legs and the soles are made to fit perfectly to your feet. It is like your barefoot and for me...that is amazing.

These are perfect for going out, SHOPPING, or just a walk. You will also have one of a kind boots that not many others will. If you want to look at the entire collection just click here! Seriously they are adorable and I may need to get a few pairs.

I am such a boot person and fell in love instantly when I saw these. They are so cute and are perfect for fall/summer/spring. These are great for music festivals to. You would be one of a kind with these boots. Gipsy Dharma also does weekly giveaways so you have a shot at winning a pair. Their current giveaway can be found here. Make sure you go there and try to win them.

What pair is your favorite? I am loving the Antique Tan Knee boots.

How to Get Good Seats at Concerts

I have had a few people ask about how I get super good seats at concerts. It is actually quiet easy. There is no rocket science to or even that much thinking. Every show I go to, I prefer to be at least 2-3 rows by the stage. I will not take any less if I buy the tickets. It is so much fun to be that close to the artist.

Here are some tips on getting good seats at concerts.

1. Join the fan club of the act you want to see. I also join fan clubs of the music artist I want to see. If someone if coming to my area, I join right away before tickets go on sale. Fan club members get first dibs on any tickets. This automatically gets me up front or even in the pit. (Some acts do not have a pit and some even have the pit on the side and then regular seating out front) Some fan clubs can be pricey. Blake Shelton's is free! Go JOIN! I keep Miranda Lambert's year round but others I just join when they come around to get a good deal. For the last concert I paid $60.00 per ticket and I was 3rd. My friends that were way up away from the stage paid the same....womp womp.

2. A perk of Fan Club is meet n greets with an artist. These go quick so good luck trying to get one of them.

3. Join the mailing list/fan club of the arena/stadium you are going to. They have their own little pre sale after the fan club gets their hands on it. There are typically some good seats left still and they are fairly priced. Most concert tickets for a country concert do not run that high unless it is Taylor Swift..then sell a kidney to get in.

4. Don't go in a big group. I find that if it is just me and one other person, we have a better shot at getting good seats. Big groups have to get seats in sections that are farther away and higher up. Small groups are easier to find seats for. Typically go with your best friend and make it a girls night!

5.  Log on the Ticketmaster or whatever site is selling the tickets the minute they go up for sale. I log in the minute I can and buy my tickets to get the best seat I can possibly get. I prefer to be front row or 2nd row. I don't like pit as much because I am not going to elbow you to get close to an artist.  Watch refreshing Ticketmaster to much though, it will lock you out for awhile if they think you are a ticket scalper.

6. Check out the seating arrangement ahead of time as well to see if the seats you get are what you want. You can also change them on the site and see if you can get something else. I typically try to get something closer a few times before I actually buy them.

7. Radio station contest. I have won a ton of contest over the past few years and have gotten to see some great acts like Darius Rucker and Brantley Gilbert for free!!! I call in, enter on their pages, their facebook pages. You can't win if you don't try.

8.  From Jessica over Wonder What's Next "Another good one is to join the fan/promotional club of the radio station sponsoring the event if they have one. That's how I was able to get tickets to Taylor Swift at all (and still sell a kidney). I got in a day before general admission went on sale, had to wait 20 minutes to even get on the site and every time I refreshed seats were disappearing. But by golly, I got three of them! At the very top.......but then arena staff moved us down to the floor before the show started. :). "

9. Tweet the artist..what can it hurt?? I have seen people score tickets and meet n greets! Also...some acts that open up for big headliners typically give away 1 or 2 pairs of them before the shows. Watch them twitter feeds if you don't have a pair of tickets yet!

10. From Erin over at She's A Big Star "Another tip that people aren't usually aware of is to wait until just 2-4 days before the concert and check Ticketmaster. It's risky to wait that long but once they get into the venue and start setting up for the show, they realize there's sometimes more room than they thought so they'll add additional seats, most times right up front. This is also when any tickets the artist and crew aren't using for that show get released back to TM and they're good seats. I've gotten 2nd and 3rd row seats that way. Also, buying a single ticket (esp through fan clubs) you'll always find the best seat available. Of course it kind of stinks because you want to be with your friends but if you don't mind going solo, you can score a good seat. I scored front row for Kenny Chesney that way once at face value...."

I know this is a bit of a lot of work but it is worth it for a good night of fun!
Other than is easy...join the fan clubs and mailing list and buy the tickets before others can! If not, you are up in the nosebleed sections and your best friend is your beer!

I'm a Bad Blogger

I tend to think I am a bad blogger. I post exactly what is on my mind, I don't care what others think and I don't follow the trend. Typically I think I am not the best blogger. I don't post a ton of reviews and I just post..whatever! Here is why I  believe I am a bad blogger:

1. I don't post or schedule beforehand. I typically type my post as I go and just hit publish. Proof read..psh who has time for that. You may notice spelling errors, grammatical errors and a few other problems in my post sometimes!

2. Pictures? I take them, I promise, I just don't post alot. I leave my family and friends offline for privacy and normally I forget to put pictures in my blog post.

3. Blogger meet ups. I say I will go..then the day comes..and I bail. Sorry! I really love yall but I am bad at commitments. Only one blogger has met me in real life and that was Beth. She is amazing BTW.

4. Blog swaps. Yep..I fail at this to. I never participate. I used too..but not anymore. I know..I suck.

5. Posting 5 days a week. I try..I really do but some days you need a break. I love my blog but some times I have nothing to share and it is for the best.

6. I suck at DIY stuff. Yep..I tried it..I suck. I can make a burlap wreath like no other but far from that it is not happening.

I try..I really do...and I work on my blog every day when I can. I promise to work to be a better blogger!

Valentines Day for the Country Man

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, it is so hard to find something for Chris. He is a country boy through and through and he always will tell me he does not want anything. Well this leads to me feeling like a turd and then I am like welp I need to get you something so what?? Here is a list of things that you can get country boy and you can not go wrong with.

1. Beer. What man would not love a nice case of beer with a bow on it? Chris will be thrilled to get a 24 pack of bud light brought home. Easy peasy.

2. Anything camo. My husbands favorite color and anything to wear is camouflage. Our curtains are camo (Don't ask!) our bedspread is camo..everything is camo. I know I caved on that one. I plan on going to Gander Mountain, buying a camo sweatshirt and BAM! Taken care of.

3. A good meal. He loves to eat and loves shrimp. I am allergic so he rarely eats it to be nice to me. I plan on getting him it so he can eat what he wants. A way to a mans heart is really through his stomach, at least a country boys heart.

4. Sexy time. I mean come on....let's be real. What country boy is not expecting this on VDay?? Be real ladies you better give it up!

It is pretty simple to buy for a country guy on Valentines love him up. What are you planning on doing for Valentines Day for your special person?

Love Is Not Perfect

First off, let me say I love my husband. He is my everything but sometimes love and relationships are not easy. No relationship is perfect. Some people like to paint these pictures of these perfect little marriages. Well let me tell you, those are fake. Behind closed doors the truth is there. I love Chris with everything in me but sometimes I wanna just scream at him. Everyone has those days. I would never trade my life with anyone or not get married when I did. I love everything about what I have done with my life. I just get frustrated with my husband sometimes.

This is coming from a really dumb place really. I was trying to cook the other day and Chris kept trying to help. Most women would be like HEY that is awesome. Not me. It drives me insane. He never helps much with cooking after I finally learned how to cook and now that I can cook, I don't want the help. Our kitchen is not huge and really, anyone in there helping just gets in my way. I kept telling him to MOVE and GET OUT THE WAY but in a nice way. Finally I just got frustrated and was mean about it. I know he meant well but I didn't need the help. This is the second time this has happened in a few weeks. Hopefully he took the hint to stay out of my kitchen!

It is always little things that can set you off and when you live with someone, it is going to be something small that will do it. I would never change my husband. I love him with everything in me and he is my world. I just want to make the point that no relationship is perfect. We have been married almost 4 years and we are still growing and learning every day. We will continue to through our entire marriage and relationship. If we did not have little spats, it would be un-healthy. You have to have these to learn and grow in your relationship.

Baked Spaghetti

I love pasta and anything with pasta. I have never made baked spaghetti before so I wanted to try it over the weekend. It was so easy to make and only took a few minutes to throw together.

Here is what you need:

1 (16 ounce) package of spaghetti
2 eggs
1 pound ground beef of turkey
1 onion, chopped or diced
1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 (32 ounces) jar of meatless spaghetti sauce
5 tablespoons butter, melted
2 cups of ricotta cheese
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or whatever you prefer)

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook spaghetti in boiling water, stirring occasionally until cooked through but firm to the bite, about 12 minutes. Drain.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat; cook and stir beef and onion until meat is browned and onions are soft, about 7 minutes. Drain. Stir in spaghetti sauce and seasoned salt.
  4. Whisk eggs, Parmesan cheese, and butter in a large bowl. Mix in spaghetti to egg mixture and toss to coat. Place half the spaghetti mixture into baking dish. Top with half the cottage cheese, mozzarella, and meat sauce. Repeat layers. Cover with aluminum foil.
  5. Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes. Remove foil and continue to bake until the cheese is melted and lightly browned, 20 to 25 minutes longer.

I added different types of pasta and a few different types of cheese to my dish. I always alter my recipes a little bit but I think that is what makes a good cook! Let me know if you try this out. It is quick and easy and super delicious!

Monday Can We Break Up?

Monday needs to break up with me! We are not getting along today. I have been attacked by stinks bugs, the rain is ridiculous, and it is a tad bit chilly.

It is pouring down rain here. Like downpour, cats and dogs rain! It if was snow, the news said it would be about a foot deep. The only good part about the rain is that my car got a free car wash. It really needed it since my drive is a good ole mud pit right now after all the snow we have got here lately.

For some reason over the weekend stink bugs decided to say HEY Rachel. I believe it would be the 60 degree weather we had. I can not stand these creatures and I do not understand the reason for their existence. Someone, if you know a good way to get rid of them besides my dogs eating them, let me know!

And because everyone is going to mention it, I did watch part of the Superbowl. I watched up to the end of the half time show. I did not like hardly any of the commercials, the game was not that great and the half time only liked the last song. I couldn't really get into the half time show. It is not anything against Bruno Mars, it is just after Beyonce, it is hard for anyone to follow that act. Sorry there is always next year!

I did have a good weekend despite me hating Monday though. I spent it with my lovely niece and husband! I made a new recipe and got a ton of things done!

What did you do over the weekend? I hope your Monday is better than mine!
