Growing Up Loved

Hey I have one of my sponsors guesting! April Bernd from Growing Up Loved.

Do you struggle with decorating the walls in your home? You are not alone. Lots of people have no idea where to start. We want to help you with a few common problems.

What size of art should I use?

Most people think that an 8X10 is a large size for a print. Here are some examples of an 8X10 and a 20X40 used in the same room. In most cases, if using wall art, bigger is better. If you need to cover a large space, such as the space over a sofa or a bed, you are going to want to cover as much wall as you can. If you are adding art to a lonely shelf or a bookcase, smaller is better.

What else can I do to my walls besides just hanging up pictures?

You can do so much more with your art than just framing and hanging it. Use a framed art print on a shelf with a few knick-knacks. Use your art on a bookcase between books to give your shelves a stylized and sophisticated look. Mix your framed art with other elements like wreaths and ironwork.

How do I choose art and frames?

A common saying in our shop is “decorate your home with a purpose”. You’re your family wakes up in the morning and sits down for breakfast, what message do you want them to see? At our home, we have a huge print that reads, “Today I choose joy” because I wanted to remind my son to be positive, even when he was going through a tough time at school. What quotes or songs do you like? Did you honeymoon in Paris and the Eiffel Tower brings back lots of sweet memories? Choose a print that showcases those memories. When you look at your walls, they should make you feel calm, comfortable and inspiring. This is your home. It is YOUR space and should make you happy, not a home decorating magazine editor. Keep it about you.

Take a look around your home and in your closet. Do you choose bold and eclectic styles with lots of pattern and color? Do you prefer sophisticated hues of beige and sleek accents? Do comfortable and laid back belongings surround you and scream casual day at the beach? You can probably see a pattern forming.

When you are choosing frames, look for the style that best reflects you. If you are sophisticated and elegant, choose sleek metallic frames and glossy finishes. If you like lots of color and patterns, choose frames in different colors, shapes and sizes with lots of texture and interesting patterns. For a more casual look, find frames that are made from weathered or painted wood.

Where can I find unique art?

Our shop, Growing Up Loved, offers a collection of affordable art that you download and print at home or at a local printer. We can customize prints to fit your needs. Another place to look is Etsy. The individual shops on Etsy have a huge collection of original art that is handmade by artisans around the world. Check out your local craft fairs and art shows as well. Personalizing your home will create a comfortable spot for you and your family.
